VetCalc, an abbreviation for "VETeran Combined Disability CALCulator," is a comprehensive tool that addresses all your inquiries regarding the calculation of disability percentages and payment benefits by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This includes understanding how the VA calculates disability percentages using the Combined Ratings Table (as defined in 38 CFR 4.25 and 4.26) and determines monthly compensation benefits according to the Veterans Affairs Compensation Benefits Rate Table. Commonly referred to as "Veterans Affairs Math" or "VA Math," the process of combining these disability percentages and determining monthly benefits can be complex.

Based on my experience working as a Rating Specialist at the Department of Veterans Affairs, I frequently encountered instances where the Bilateral Factor was not accurately applied to disabilities that required it (pursuant to 38 CFR 4.26). Correcting this error by incorporating the Bilateral Factor often resulted in an increase in the veteran's overall disability percentage, potentially leading to a higher level of monthly payment.
